Fitness Centers, Gym, and Swimming Pool
Enrolled students are eligible to use the fitness center facilities (within stated guidelines and posted facility schedules) at no cost and are defined as those students enrolled in a minimum of 3 semester credit hours of academic or technical coursework during the semester which they plan to utilize the fitness center facilities. Continuing Education students enrolled in workforce courses or programs with a minimum of 48 instructional hours in one semester are also eligible to utilize the fitness center facilities. A valid Vernon College ID is required for each visit. Enrolled students may also participate in other recreational or personal enrichment classes offered by the fitness centers by paying the associated fee.
Vernon College Fitness Center Guidelines
- Memberships to the Vernon College Fitness Centers are available at no charge to all credit students and those Continuing Education students enrolled in CE certification classes of 180 contact hours or more.
- No food in Fitness Center or locker rooms. Water and other appropriate beverages are allowed.
- Appropriate attire must be worn at ALL TIMES during use of the facility. Please be courteous to others in what is worn and visible to the eye. You may be asked to leave should you not abide by this rule.
- Students and members may provide their own lock to use a locker on a semester basis. At the end of each semester, lockers must be emptied and locks removed. Employees may have a permanent locker by registering their locker number at the fitness desk and providing their own lock. Fitness Center Staff is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
- After using the Fitness Center, please wipe the equipment you used, remove your trash items, and secure or remove personal items. Detailed cleaning and sanitizing will be performed regularly by Fitness Center Staff.
- Vernon College scheduled instructional courses have priority use of all areas and equipment. Fitness Center patrons are not allowed to interrupt Vernon College scheduled classes.
- Do not slam, drop, or throw weights. Use the equipment with care. Re-rack free weights, including dumb bells, when finished.
- All users must scan ID card to enter. Failure to comply with this rule will result in users’ loss of the facility until procedures have been followed.
- Do not remove Fitness Center equipment or property from the facility.
- If a machine or equipment item becomes non-functional or appears malfunctioning, please notify Fitness Center Staff, preferably the Coordinator, immediately.
- Please be courteous of other users. If there is a wait for fitness equipment please limit your cardio to 30 minutes.
- Community recreation directors, supervisors, or other College officials may suspend anyone from the facility who does not adhere to Vernon College Fitness Center guidelines. The suspension will be for a specified period of time.
- King Center will charge a walk in fee of $5.00 for any person choosing to utilize the facility not considered a student/employee or member of the King Center. These patrons will be required to sign a liability form upon entrance as a guest and will receive a copy of the King Center Guidelines. Any person failing to pay the walk in fee or follow the guidelines of the King Center may be asked to exit the facility and not return.
