Academic Coaching

Academic Coaching is a collaborative and interactive process intended to assist students in making an individualized plan for achieving academic success.  It provides students with the opportunity to work individually with a Student Success Specialist or a specialized program to enhance academic skills, increase awareness of educational resources, gain confidence and discover motivation. 

VC Notification
VC Notification is a proactive student support system to inform students when there are concerns about academic progress or to acknowledge success in a class. There are four primary reasons a VC Notification may be sent: academic excellence, attendance issues, academic concerns, or non-academic concerns. VC Notifications are monitored by Student Success as applicable. The purpose of the VC Notifications is to communicate and encourage students.

Chaparral Orientation

All new students to Vernon College must attend Chaparral Orientation either online or in person prior to enrollment. Students will learn valuable information to help them throughout their Vernon College tenure including, but not limited to: getting started, steps to getting registered, finances, staying connected, student resources, and student rights & responsibilities.  

Academic Improvement Program
The Academic Improvement Program is a targeted academic coaching requirement for all students who are on Academic Probation. Students may participate in person or online with a Student Success Specialist to include, but not limited to, GPA computation, goal setting, and detailed discussion of tools and resources available to increase student success. Students will complete the program when they have completed their Academic Improvement Plan.

I’m First - VC
I’m First-VC is a program designed to help first generation college students be supported in their first year at Vernon College. This program provides more individualized information on Financial Aid, Career Exploration, Scholarships available, etc. as well as provides a grant to students upon completion for their second year at Vernon College.
