Academic Advising

At Vernon College, all students are assigned a Student Success Advisor/Specialist upon completion of the admissions application dependent on location and program of study. The individual student is ultimately responsible for course and program selections. The Student Success Advisor/Specialist is a student’s primary point of contact for all student success needs beginning with the first semester and continuing through the completion of educational goals.

Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Incomplete Advising
Students who are TSI Incomplete are required to be enrolled in developmental coursework, per their program of study requirements, until they have completed their academic success plan. Students will receive their Academic Success Plan from the Student Success Office. The Academic Success Plan will be designed on a case by case basis to provide the student an appropriate measure to obtain a TSI Complete status and include:
career advising
course based and/or non-course based developmental education options
campus and/or community resources and support services
degree plan or plan of study
designated point of contact
registration information for the next semester
differentiated placement
a description of the appropriate coursework to ensure college readiness

Students enrolled in developmental courses:
must participate continuously in a developmental program until all TSI requirements are satisfied.
if dropped/withdrawn from developmental must be dropped/withdrawn from the corresponding corequisite .
are encouraged to concurrently enroll in EDUC 1100 (PSYC 1100).

Vernon College participates in the Math Pathways for College Readiness by offering two distinct paths for Math Preparation.  A student who chooses the Non-Algebra (Math 1332 or 1342) Pathway will not be automatically prepared for College Algebra (Math 1314) or Math for Business (MATH 1324) and is required to take additional Developmental Math courses for enrollment in College Algebra.
