Barber

The Class A Barber program is a one-year + 8 week program  (42 credit hour) certificate of completion program (1500 clock hours). The focus of this program is hair care, nail care and skin care. A Class A Barber specializes in the cutting of hair using clipper, shear and razor. Also chemical services such as relaxers, texturizers, perms, and color. A business management course is taught to help with development of their practice. Courses are available at the Vernon campus and Century City Center. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be eligible to take the examination prescribed by the State Licensing agency to become a Licensed Class A Barber.

Licensed Barbers can find career opportunities either working for themselves or as an associate in a salon.

The Vernon College Barber Program is accredited by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Program Requirements

1. Complete and submit the Vernon College Application for Admission. A student must be considered for the College before being considered for the Barber program. Admission to the college does not guarantee enrollment in the program.

2. Complete and submit the Barber Application for enrollment; available from the Barber department in Vernon and Century City

3. Bacterial Meningitis vaccination is required for students younger than 22 years of age. (Read the vaccine requirement and exemptions on the VC website.)

4. Attend New Student Orientation.

5. The Barber Review Committee will rank students to determine acceptance into the program based on the merits of the packet as determined by the departmentally adopted rubric.
